Shell Account
#############

Centra has a shell service available for all permanent members and long term visitors.

You can request a shell account for the following means:

    - Personal use. Check :ref:`p_shell` for more details.
    - Calculus. Check :ref:`c_shell` for more details.

Personal Shell
**************

Important Notes
---------------

You need to either be a permanent or long-term visitor to be elegible to this service, check you status :doc:`here </membertypes>`.

You need to have a :doc:`SSH2 Keypair </ssh_keypair>` in order to request a Personal Shell account.

Account sharing with fellow researchers, students, family or friends is **forbidden** .

Responsibility
--------------

It is of the sole responsibility of the user to:

   - Keep its file access permissions correctly set up;
   - Keep the account safe;
   - Making sure the account isn't used for malicious activities;


The disregarding of any of the above can entitle a user to a permanent shell account ban.

Usage
-----

This is a multi purpose shell account access that is mainly used for:

   - Personal Webpage Hosting
   - Personal File Repository/Backup 

Connecting
----------

After your account is activated you can connect to it via SSH and copy files from/to using SCP::

    $ ssh yourusername@gamow.tecnico.ulisboa.pt

    $ scp -r some files or folders yourusername@gamow.tecnico.ulisboa.pt:

Setup
-----

In order to setup your account, please contact us via e-mail, using the :doc:`Shell Account Support Request </support/systems/shell_support>`.

**Note that if you are contacting on behalf of someone, please add in the e-mail message who that person is and a contact for that person.**
